President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto have joined Kenyans in mourning with the family and the people Juja constituency following the death of MP Francis Munyua Waititu.
In his message of comfort, President Kenyatta eulogised Waititu, famously known by his moniker, ‘Wakapee’, as a progressive, trusted and devoted leader.
“We’ve sadly lost a very progressive, trusted and committed leader whose public actions always reflected the interests of his constituents.
“It is because of the trust and love that the people of Juja had for Hon Waititu that they entrusted him with a second term in a very competitive election despite his illness,” the President said.
The Head of State applauded the fallen legislator for his contribution and commitment to the fight against cancer in the country saying the MP continously raised public awareness on the disease.
“Throughout his fight with cancer, Hon Waititu led efforts to overcome the disease through awareness creation and support for initiatives aimed at lowering the cost of treatment in the country,” the President said.
For his part, Dr Ruto mourned the deceased as a principled, hardworking and respected leader, who was above party politics.
“He was selfless, bold and gifted with an affable personality. We will miss his enterprising servant leadership that transformed many lives,” he said.
The lawmaker’s colleagues in Parliament also sent thier messages of condolence to the family.
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi: “It is with great sadness that I have learnt of the untimely demise of Juja legislator,the Hon. Francis Munyua Waititu after a long illness. My sympathies go to his family,friends and the people of Juja Constituency whom he represented with great zeal commitment.”
Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna: “My deepest condolences to the family, friends and the people of Juja Constituency for the loss of Hon. Francis Waititu Popularly known as Wakapee. Francis was my close friend whom we shared a Parliamentary Select Committee on implementation.”
Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga: “My deepest condolences to the family, friends of Hon. Francis Waititu ‘Wakapee’ and the people of Juja Constituency, Kiambu County. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of grief. He was a distinguished personality and a true development oriented leader.”
Waititu lost battle to brain cancer last evening while receiving treatment at the MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi.
He had been treated locally and abroad since late 2017.
