Former National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale now claims he is regretting supporting ills in the Jubilee government for close to 10 years.
Opening up during a candid interview with the Sunday Nation, the Garissa Township MP alleged that he and Deputy President were forced to defend Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, who by then was the Devolution Cabinet Secretary when she was accused of embezzling National Youth Service (NYS) funds.
Duale also claimed that the President coerced them to shield many corruption scandals that the opposition was exposing.
“Ruto and I regret a lot of things. There are many things we did out of loyalty to President Uhuru Kenyatta, but which we did not believe in. The DP and I were, for instance, forced to defend Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru out of loyalty.
“We were forced to defend this government from Health ministry’s scandals and to defend the Eurobond fraud and Standard Gauge Railway (SGR),” he said.
He echoed billionaire Jimi Wanjigi, who recently revealed that the cost of building SGR from Mombasa to Syokimau was inflated.
He added that the fallout between the Head of State has taught him so many lessons in politics.
Duale remarked that that bitter public divorce of the two former bosom buddies made him believe that even the DP can betray him.
“If a politician tells you to close your eyes so he can pray for you, keep one eye open. Raila betrayed Ruto in 2007 and Uhuru betrayed Ruto and me between 2018 and 2022. The only thing remaining for is to see if Willliam Ruto will betray me,” he said.
The lawmaker spoke a year after he dethroned as the National Assembly Majority Leader.
He was among the many allies of the DP who faced the axe for being loyal to the second in command.
