President Uhuru Kenyatta has finally unveiled ODM leader Raila Odinga as his preferred successor in his Mt Kenya backyard.
The President on Monday campaigned for the former Prime Minister in Karatina, Nyeri County.
He asked the locals to consider the presidential candidature of the AU Special Envoy on Roads and Infrastructure.
“Recently, my visitor passed through here. Did you see him? I don’t want to talk much, but please consider him and think about it, as you make your decisions next year,” he said.
The Head of State of State was making reference to Raila’s tour of the Mt Kenya region towards the end of September.
This is the first time the Kenya leader is pronouncing himself on the 2022 State House race while in his restless bastion, which, according to allies of Deputy President William Ruto, has slipped from the President. They claim that President Kenyatta neglected the region after his ‘Handshake’ with Raila and now the residents were rebelling.
However, the Head of State last month hinted at backing the former Premier’s fifth attempt at the presidency during a development tour in Kibera, Nairobi City.
Meanwhile, the President while in Kirinyaga yesterday, taunted his deputy over his premature 2022 election campaigns.
He said the second in command has been sabotaging his agenda and that’s why they fell out.
“Now tell me, if I started politics immediately after the election, do you think the government would have initiated any meaningful development projects in this county? I decided to work while he opted to start campaigns.
“He doesn’t even do the work he was elected for. He has been moving around the country insulting me and peddling lies,” the President said in Kikuyu.
