President Uhuru Kenyatta has suffered yet another blow in his quest to unite his Mt Kenya backyard after yet another key ally bolted out.

Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba has today, 23rd June, switched camp from the Kieleweke faction of the Jubilee Party to Deputy President William Ruto’s “hustlers’ nation”.

The lawmaker met DP Ruto at his official Karen residence in Nairobi.

Gathoni has been a staunch supporter of President Kenyattta and a key crusader of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) until recently.

Following the defeat of the Jubilee candidate in the Juja parliamentary by-election, the Kiambu MP took a sabbatical leave from active politics to decide his political future. The seat was won by DP Ruto-linked candidate George Koimburi of the People’s Empowerment Party.

In a statement, the Woman Rep said it was clear that the second in command had wrested the Mt Kenya vote from the President.

She noted that sticking in the Head of State’s camp was akin to committing political suicide.

A few days ago, Wamuchomba made the clearest indication that she switching camps after the Jubilee Party and ODM initiated talks to form a pre-election coalition.

She claimed that the fall of Jubilee was imminent.

The first-time MP revealed that most politicians who support President Kenyatta in the Mt Kenya region were just biding their time before crossing over to DP Ruto’s camp
