There was confusion earlier today, 26th March, after State House official social media pages released a message from President Uhuru Kenyatta condoling with the family of a former State House official
In the message, President Kenyatta mourned the death of former State House Comptroller Abraham Kiptanui.
In his message of condolence to his family, the Head of State described Kiptanui as a hard working Kenyan patriot who served the nation for many years with great distinction.
“I wish the family God’s comfort as they mourn their departed kin,” he said.
But it would later emerge that Kiptanui is live and kicking.
Government critic and Deputy President William Ruto’s digital strategist Dennis Itumbi took to his social media platforms to call out State House over fake news.
Itumbi said his sources had revealed to him that the former State House official had not passed away.
“State House Kenya this is fake news. How can the President mourn a man who is alive? State House wakianza fake news…where are we headed to? Hustler Nation Intelligence Bureau (HNIB) confirms Abraham Kiptanui is alive,” he wrote.
State House would later pull down the posts, a clear indication that they had misled the public.
However, no apology was given.
