The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists’ Union (KMPDU) is mourning the death of yet another doctor.
Dr Nira Patel succumbed to Covid-19 barely two days after she contracted the virus. She died today, 21st of November, as the KMPDU also announced the death of Dr Anthony Were Omollo, a kidney specialist, also from the virus.
In a tweet, the doctors’ union said: “We mourn the passing on of Dr Nira Patel due to Covid-19 complications. A dental surgeon specialised in orthodontics, a mentor to many and was recently bestowed with the life membership of the @kenyadental Association. Condolences to the family and friends. May her soul Rest In Peace.”

Her death brings the total number of doctors who have succumbed to Covid-19 to 12, as 32 healthcare workers have also died from the virus, with many others infected countrywide.
The union has issued strike notice due to the growing number of medics dying. They are set to down tools on 6th December 2020, if the government does not meet their demands, including providing them with adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).
