Vihiga County boda boda leaders on Monday, 23rd March, held talks with Governor Wilber Ottichilo on revenue collection.
Their coordinator, Franklin Muchile, presented their grievances to the governor and requested for sound structures to be put in place before they begin paying taxes again.
One of the issues raised was on accountability of the collected revenue, which the leaders cited as the reason why operators may not be willing to pay taxes.
They, however, said that the sector was ready to pay taxes should good the matter be streamlined.
The operators would rather collect the revenue and pay directly to the county government through its leadership.
Revenue collectors will be selected from among the operators and they will be paid a stipend.
Previously, 48 members had been chosen to collect revenue but had not received their full payments as had been agreed.
Governor Ottichilo said that the debt would be settled before they begin to collect taxes again.
The operators have been called upon to propose their preferred method of revenue collection in writing to the governor for further discussion before they start paying taxes.
