The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji has applied to have murder suspect Joseph Irungu aka Jowie sent back to prison.
Jowie was charged with the gruesome killing of businesswoman Monica Kimani.
He stayed in jail for several months before the court released him on bond. He was freed after paying Ksh2 million cash bail.
However, the DPP wants Jowie put behind bars for going against the conditions of the bond.
In his court documents, Haji indicates that the suspect assaulted a man while at a club in Nairobi in June this year.
While the victim recorded a statement and later withdrew, the DPP says Jowie violated the ruling by High Court judge James Wakiaga.
Further, he is accused of revealing details about his murder suit in several interviews published on YouTube.
In the affidavit, it also stated he lives in Nairobi while orders were that he should stay with his parents, awaiting hearing and determination of his case.
If the court finds he violated the bail terms, Jowie could find himself in jail again.
Jowie secured freedom in March 2020 after staying at the Kamiti maximum prison for over one year.
After that, he launched his music career by producing gospel songs.
In September 2022, he announced that he had found the love of his life. Eleanor Musangi alias Ella claimed that the Holy Spirit directed her to settle down with Jowie.
However, in February this year, the relationship ended.
Ella said: “I lied about being married to protect Jowie for legal reasons because of his court release, but I don’t want my compassion to be used against me in other areas of life.”
