A 27-year-old mother of three from Machakos County has shocked fellow Kenyans after admitting that she poisoned her children.
Mary Nduku was arraigned on Monday, 19th July, for allegedly poisoning her two children, aged six and five. She told the court that she still doesn’t understand what made her do such a despicable thing.
Unfortunately, one of the children succumbed to the poison, while the other is fighting for dear life at Machakos Level 5 Hospital.
According to the court papers, Nduku is said to have turned hostile after her parents approached and asked her to end her romantic relationship with her uncle. It was revealed that in spite of countless warnings from her family, she still went on to date her 27-year-old uncle identified as Dominic Mbithi.
Mary will be facing charges arising from the Friday, 16th July, incident. She had a heated argument with her mother, Teresia Mwikya, over the ‘incest’ claims.
Her father said: “My daughter gave two of her children drugs meant for injecting cows. She poisoned them on Friday and came to my house.”
The children, he added, looked frail and sick.
The mother said the children were then rushed to the hospital.
She said her daughter was going through hard times after her failed business failed and she was unable to raise enough money to sustain her family.
