WPP Scangroup has suspended Chief Executive Officer Bharat Thakrar and finance boss Satyabrata Das, after accusing both of them of gross misconduct.

In a statement issued in Nairobi, the board of directors said the suspension was to allow for investigations into the allegations and possible offences in their capacity as senior executives and employees of the company.

Thakrar is the founding shareholder of the WPP-Scangroup and a director of all WPP-Scangroup subsidiaries. He has been working in advertising and communications for 36 years.

The board announced the appointment of Alec Graham as the new CEO in an interim capacity as investigations of the two managers continue.

“The board has delegated authority to an interim chief operating officer Alec Graham to ensure the continued management of the company with the support of the board and the senior executives of the company’s subsidiaries,” the statement read in part.

Graham has 25 years’ experience in the advertising and communications business, having worked with various companies in the WPP Group.

The company announced that it would consider the appointment of an interim Chief Financial Officer in due course.

The board said further announcements would be made later.

Meanwhile, stakeholders and investors have further been advised to exercise caution when dealing in the company’s securities.
