Mesut Ozil agent Erkut Sogut has accused Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta of being dishonest over the midfielder’s situation.
This comes after the German midfielder was left out of the English Premier League and Europa League squads for the 2020/21 campaign.
The 32-year-old, who joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013, has not played for the Gunners since March.
Speaking in an interview with ESPN, Sogut claimed that Arteta had not been open when talking about Ozil’s plight.
“Arsenal fans deserve an honest explanation, not Arteta saying, ‘I failed Ozil.’ You didn’t fail Ozil. You failed to be fair, honest, and transparent and treat someone with respect who has a contract and was loyal all the time,” Sogut said.
“Every single person outside knows he hasn’t treated him fairly. He didn’t give him a chance to show himself this season. If he is still under contract, the player should have the option to stay and fight for his place. Mesut hasn’t been given that.”
Sogut further revealed that Ozil could have left for another club like Alexis who quit Arsenal to join Manchester United in 2018.
“He could have got a £30 million signing-on fee somewhere else as a free agent at the peak of his career. But he stayed loyal,” he explained.
In a recent interview, Arteta revealed that Ozil’s omission was due to football reasons and not personal issues.
Ozil released a statement on Wednesday, 21st October, saying he was “deeply disappointed”. having been axed from the 25-man squad adding that his loyalty to the club had not been reciprocated.
