A young man from Chaani in Changamwe, Mombasa Town, fled after spotting health officers, who had gone to pick him and his brother up after their Covid-19 tests returned positive results.

According to security officers at Chaani Police Station, the two brothers were tested for the coronavirus disease last week.

The escapee’s sibling willingly presented himself to the public health officials and was taken into isolation.

Chief Ben Valasa disclosed that samples of the two were taken after they exhibited Covid-19 symptoms.

“They were tested and they knew the results were coming today. I don’t know why one decided to ran way,” he said.

The administrator requested the locals to help the police trace the young man.

“If you see him anyone, report immediately and don’t go near him or even his house,” Valasa urged.

He added that police officers would take stern action against anyone who could be hiding the Covid-19 patient.

The chief also asked health officers to camp in the area so that they can test as many people as possible, adding that more people may have been infected.

All the other residents in the plot where the two patients live have been asked to go for tests. Already eight have been tested and are waiting for results.

Residents have been asked to observe the Covid-19 precautionary measures issued by the Ministry of Health.
